Clamp Bracket

 

 Q: Do I need to run the spring in front or behind when on the clamp bracket?
When on the clamp bracket do I need to lock the whole birdcage or just the part with shock mounts? I can run it either way, too damn many adjustments.

 

A: Go in front, and lock just the part with the shock mount (not the whole cage). 60 to 100 lbs of bite will get you close, but CAUTION, make small bite adjustments because you can get throttle tight VERY quickly if you put too much in.

 

Q: This is going to be a dumb question but what is a "Clamp Bracket"?

 

A: With our GRT we got a bracket that goes on the left side of the axle. It is a separate bracket about 7" long that clamps around the axle tube and has a mount on the end for the shock to mount to. Since it is clamped to the axle tube it indexes the shock as the axle wraps up under acceleration and unwraps under deceleration. I'm not sure what the exact effects of using are, so for now we don't use it. Maybe when we figure the car out a little better we will try it, but I have heard most teams are getting away from using the clamp bracket.

 

A: Put the LR on a clamp bracket if the track is real tacky or rubbered up real bad to help take some bite out of the LR wheel. It'll help free the car up.
This might be something you should try sometime if you are a little pushy in the middle

A: A clamp bracket allows you to directly clamp a given spring to the rear end tube. It is most commonly used on the left rear with the spring in front. By doing this it allows the car to gain bite/wedge/cross (what ever a racer wants to call it) when the rear end raps under throttle. As the rear end twists, it goes directly into the spring, there for putting pressure on the left rear. On the other hand when a driver gets off the throttle it dewedges the car (so loose in and tight off is a common problem). I have found this to work on slick bull ring style tracks. It is a very aggressive setup that isn't that common any more, but it does work. Don't know if this help anyone but it is my 2 cents
